Since I had this 12v RV water
pump laying around and it appears that I will likely need to rinse my
radiator on the trail once in a while I decided to gather up the rest of
what I would need to put it to work out where I would really need it. A
long as we can find water we should always be able to wash up now...
Here is the whole system broke down and put
away in a small
Delta Toolbox mounted on the front access panel. I can still get my
axe, machete and pry bar in the box.
The pump is a
Shurflo Fresh Water Pump purchased at Camping World. Pumps 2.8gpm @
45psi, 7amp max. Finished system shoots water 40 feet, I measured it!
I plumbed in to stay in the box. Simply add the filter and hoses and
flip the switch.
The filter was also purchased at Camping
World,
Shurflo Water Strainer model 254. Pipe and hose fittings collected
at the local Lowes.
But the best find was probably the cheapest.
This is a landscape "bubbler" that is normally used to water trees and
such found at Home Depot, cost about $5. It has a coarse netting inside.
This works EXCELLENT as an initial strainer attached to a 15 ft hose
used as a suction line to throw in a water source, pond, ditch, etc. I
was really worried about how to filter crappy water enough to pass
through the pump. This part in combination with the #40 stainless steel
mesh screen in the Shurflo filter I think we're set.
Here's the whole system ready for use. The
hose to the nozzle is a collapsible 10' also bought at Camping
World. Enough to wash the whole ATV.
The pump is controlled with a waterproof
toggle switch mounted on the pod next to the speedometer powered from
the accessory circuit. Notice the hose caps used when the system is put
away. The Delta box is mounted to the front access panel. The whole
works lifts off. Here you see the wire running back to the switch. I
used a alternator plug to allow removal of the box completely. I could
stock a set of alligator clips so the whole system could be used
remotely from the ATV. huhhuh....McGyver ma butt....
